Summer Bucket List

10 Activities to Keep You Entertained and Cool During Summer

Summer unofficially starts right about now for most of us. Traditionally, Memorial Day weekend is the time when most of us begin making plans for the warmer weather months.

With many kids already done with school for the summer, many people are taking the chance to extend the three-day weekend into more by going on a family vacation. Recent travel surveys show that most Americans are hitting the road rather than getting on an airplane, which means they are mostly staying within the country.

Warm weather fun

But summer is more than just a time for vacation. It’s also a time to take part in fun, everyday activities that can only happen during warmer weather months. With this in mind, we’ve compiled a summer bucket list of sorts that you can pull out one of those days when you’re lounging by the pool and trying to decide what to do the next day.

Here they are, in no particular order:

Go to the beach. By all means, make a day out of it. Enjoy the cool breeze. As you know, there are a plethora of beach options in Southern California.

Go to an outdoor concert. The Hollywood Bowl has an amazing line-up of performers to suit most any taste.

Go to a waterpark. If water is your thing, the Cove in Riverside is not too far. Or if you want a more sophisticated water park, you should try the ones at the amusement parks.

Go camping, even just for a night. You should take advantage of the fact that California has the most national state parks in the country. Drive short or drive far, your choice.

Go hiking. See No. 4 above for note about national state parks. There are also trails throughout the Inland Empire, most notably in the San Bernardino Mountains.

Have a backyard BBQ. Entertaining at its simplest. Just fire up the grill, gather a few friends and, voila, instant party. Feel free to linger long into the night since it doesn’t get dark early.

Go for a river adventure. Did you know that you can now take kayak excursions on the Los Angeles River? If you crave something more adventurous, the Colorado River is only a few hours away by car. Just think how relaxing it could be to jet ski or quietly lounge on an inner tube on the river. Which brings us to the next activity ...

Fishing. Summer is a perfect time to go fishing. The Colorado River is a beautiful spot to go fishing but there are also plenty of places to fish in Southern California.

County fair. Live entertainment, fast rides, interesting vendor booths, fair food. An outing to the county fair is definitely a decadent activity.

Relax with a good book outside your home, in your backyard of patio. If anything, summer is a time for relaxing. Sometimes, just watching the clouds float by is more invigorating than a day outing.
