Get Ready for St. Patrick's Day at Home or in the Classroom with These Fun Ideas!A little look back at the history... St. Patrick's Day has been a long celebrated day in Ireland (and in other parts of the world) in honor of St. Patrick, a man who spent his adult years as a priest, using the three leafed clover to teach of the trinity to his poly-theistic community. In the U.S., the special day is observed as a celebration of Irish and Irish American culture. From prominent displays of the color green, eating and drinking, religious observances, and numerous parades, people have always found a way to enjoy the day.

Is Chocolate Nature's Prescription for Better Health, Beautiful Skin and Gorgeous Hair?

Is Chocolate Nature's Prescription for Better Health, Beautiful Skin and Gorgeous Hair? You read that right! Chocolate is 'chock' full of antioxidant rich nutrients that are necessary  for healthy skin, hair, vitality and stress levels!  Aren't you glad to know that?

This doesn't mean reaching for your favorite candy bar every time a craving comes 'a knockin'! It does mean however, that when you do have that craving, that there are some beneficial choices out there. Here's how to find them.

Natural groceries tend to have the best options for you. But regardless, you want to
find a bar with the highest cocoa/cacao content.  The higher the percentage/content, the less room there will be for unhealthy fillers and fats. (The things that make other candy bars so cheap and damaging to your beautiful health.. and skin!) Try to get one with less sugar, of course and drink a lot of water! The caffeine content in high percentages of cacao can be dehydrating. So, make sure to get the full benefits by staying hydrated!

Antioxidant Rich: Chocolate is loaded with winning antioxidants.  And what are antioxidants good for? They rid the body of free radicals; those menacing little molecules creating the havoc in your body responsible for aging, disease and even cancer! The antioxidants bond themselves to the free radicals and pretty much walk the plank with them to make sure they are disposed of properly.

Can you think of some other foods that contain antioxidants?   Pomegranates, blueberries, green tea, red wine, gogi berries?  ...  Would you believe that chocolate beats all their numbers??

The USDA published a chart of antioxidant foods measured by ORAC's (Oxygen Radical Absorbent Capacity Units).  For each 100 grams, the cacao in dark chocolate has 13,120 ORACs while blueberries only have 2,400! That's absolutely incredible! So, consuming a balanced diet that is rich in antioxidants has the ability to lower the risk of heart attacks, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, arthritis, cancer, asthma, Alzheimer's and more.

While I could dedicate a whole page to just the antioxidant benefits, I'm going to move on the the exterior perks you are free to enjoy!

Skin Protection:
The cacao bean also contains various essential nutrients which help you to stay healthny and beautiful. With great sun protection properties, it has the power to shield your skin from harmful UV rays, preventing sensitive conditions like sunburns and skin cancer. Regular dark chocolate consumption also helps you achieve that sought after smooth, problem free glow, as it keeps your skin moist and well nourished.

Exfoliation: Not just for eating, this magical bean can be used in combination with coffee beans for efficient exfoliating! It detoxifies and sloughs off the dead skin cells and allows the newly exposed, fresh skin to breathe freely.
Less Stress: Stress can really mess with your work, home and general quality of life. Dark chocolate boasts wonderful stress-relieving qualities and works wonders in getting you a glowing skin (more skin benefits!) by reducing elevated stress hormones. .....ah...  dopamine!
Hair: Cacao is a great aid in promoting blood circulation in the scalp which leads to increased growth of healthy, lustrous locks, reducing hair loss. In addition to that, it's anti-inflammatory nature helps minimize the odds of getting scalp infections.  Infused with the goodness of several hair-benefiting ingredients, dark chocolate improves the overall health of your tresses, making them shiny, sleek and voluminous.
I hope you found this article helpful and inspirational toward better care of your overall health. To be honest, there are even more benefits that I encourage you to explore on your own and please, share them in the comments below!
In the meantime, if you so find yourself wanting to indulge a little bit more into your sweet tooth and have a celebration to prepare for, please let us know!  At Ontario Bakery we are always ready to make your life a little sweeter.

Read These Tips!Wands.  What Harry Potter party would be complete without magic wands?  You can buy them cheap and hand them out as party favors, or have small sticks collected and sanded. Games. Whatever games you play, be sure to involve the sorting hat.  Place the children's names in the hat and use your best 'sorting hat' voice to announce the winner, turns, or teams! For younger children, get creative with different liquid mixing and let them make magic potions. Edible or non-edible, these will be fun for everyone.

Treats. Set up some fancy drinks based on all the magic ones that would be served at Hogwarts, on a travel trunk! Make chocolate balls and cover them in gold paper to resemble a roche with velum wings (or even feathers) to make perfect and delicious snitches!

5 Ideas on How to Have the Perfect Spring Baby Shower!

5 Ideas on How to Have the Perfect Spring Baby Shower! It's so fun to plan a baby shower and planning them for the Spring is especially fun, with the Springtime blossoms, new life and excitement! These ideas are great for incorporating the beauty of spring into your baby shower! There are so many inspirational ideas online, but don't get intimidated!  You don't have to have a pinterest-perfect event.  We have gathered some of our favorite spring baby showers ideas from our friends and hope to provide some inspiration for a baby bash that the mama-to-be is sure to smile about long after the baby's arrival.
Birds and the Bees
Though the birds and the bees may have been the cause of this current celebration, we have a little different meaning in mind!  Fill the room with sweet treats and floral delicacies.  Come to us for some custom cupcake toppers and cute bumble bee cake pops for just a few ways to enhance your party day!
Showers of Blessings
It only seems appropriate to have a shower-themed baby shower in this party roundup! Simply cut out and string little gray raindrops and hang them from above the gift table! Custom cloud cupcake toppers and Umbrella cake pops would be a great added bonus your guests will be sure to love.
Secret Garden
Paper flowers are incredibly easy to make and can be a fun shower activity as well!  They can be hung on a string to create the perfect backdrop for a dessert table in bloom! Mix in a few polka dots and lady bugs and you’ll have yourself one sweet baby shower theme.  This is an especially sweet idea if your lovely mama-to-be has a green thumb!  She grows babies too!
Sunshine and Flowers

Make it a more sophisticated gathering with some outdoor details to celebrate the mama-to-be! A bright or antique lace tablecloth can set the tone for a modern, upscale event that everyone in attendance will enjoy. Leave lavender sprigs can be tastefully placed around the desert and gift table that will leave a relaxing scent for all to enjoy as the spring winds carry their fragrance around the party!
Down the Rabbit Hole
Let's take a twist on spring and combine it with Alice in Wonderland!  Bunnies are an old symbol of fertility which is definitely helpful to remind us of a little arrival on a 'very important date!' Another little idea to go with this them is to get little bottles at a crafting store and have your guests write messages of blessings on little pieces of paper that can then be slipped into the bottles for mom to read at a later time!

You have plenty of reasons to celebrate and we want to do what we can to make it as magical as possible.  Please contact us at Ontario Bakery and let us know how we can add that special ingredient to your special day!

5 Things Every Bridesmaid Should Know Before the Wedding!

Being a bridesmaid is no small chore. Sure you get to be elegantly dressed for a day and fed fine foods, but are you aware of the role you play? It's a seriously honorable position! The bride chose you because you stand out in her heart and her wedding is a time she'll need you most.

Wedding planning in and of itself can be really hard work. What starts out as exciting can easily turn into a time consuming burden. What you don't want is for the bride to burn out. There are several distinct symptoms a bride will experience if she is starting to burnout. Keep in mind that the bride herself may not be the one to recognize these symptoms, so we are calling on you, the maid of honor, bridesmaids, friends, families and fianc├ęs, to be on the look for these signs. If you are concerned your precious bride might be on the edge, then the info below is of you.

Here are 5 Things Every Bridesmaid Should Beware of During the Wedding Process:

  • Loss of excitement about her own wedding. People generally start the planning right after the engagement, so it is only natural to think that the excitement would wear off (especially if it is a longer engagement) over time. While this is true to a certain extent, there should still be an enthusiasm throughout the entire planning process. This doesn’t mean that your bride will be glowing, smiling from ear to ear or ecstatic for months on end, but she will be happy most of the time (who wouldn’t be?!). If she just looks 'done', it's time to call in the reserves!
  • Her words may give it away. If she's saying comments like, “I am ready for this all to be over, I just want to be married”. Some of that's natural, but a classic sign of an overstressed bride is the neglect factor. She doesn’t want anything to do with her own wedding. The last few months leading up to her wedding are not fun for her and she is not looking forward to her wedding in the way that she should be because she is now associating it with headaches, stresses and work instead of the special and intimate event that it should be. If your bride is dropping comments that seem out of character and out of wedding planning energy, it may be time to approach her.
  • Passive decision making. Along with a loss of excitement and possible offbeat comments about her wedding, burnout is recognizable by this symptom above all. Write this down if you need to because she may exhibit no other symptom than this and that is passive decision making. At the beginning, you'll remember she was excited and maybe she even spent an hour at the hardware store staring at paint swatches to get an idea for the exact shade of the perfect colors she wanted. Now, if she is overwhelmed beyond her imagination, she likely doesn't care at all as to the difference between lily white and cotton white. Decisions, small or large, no longer seem to hold the importance they once did. If your brides’ decision making has become uncharacteristically passive, she may need your help to get the excitement back.
  • She's frighteningly stressed.  But really, the last sign of an overworked bride whose fiery excitement is dwindling fast is opposite of the three preceding symptoms and that is the high strung, bridezilla type, stressed beyond the point of snapping bride. This is a unique and volatile type of burnout that some brides experience and these brides above all others need your sensitivity in approaching them about their new found (and temporary!) neurosis. This is a symptom that will build over time and may get so intense that the bride will actually drive away the very help she desires and at this point, needs. If your bride has developed a bridezilla complex, remember her as she used to be, pre-engagement, when you gently approach to offer your help (and maybe lend her some of your sanity!).
  • She starts stressing about the idea of divorce, children, old age...  It sounds crazy but these things do happen.... Usually it's because she's got too much on her plate. This is a neon sign that more things need to be delegated out and she needs a pause on planning! Call in a reservation for 2 for her and hubby-to-be to enjoy, to get her nerves calmed. Watch a love story where the stars are older and happy. Whatever it takes!
Don't be afraid to call in the reserves. The maid of honor is likely the best to come in with words of, "Let's delegate this, this and that to someone else. Today is mani/pedi or massage day!" Take her to the beach.  Encourage her to go to a yoga class or drink some tea. Remind her about the honeymoon.  Above all, never undermine her stress.  Agree that it's a lot and offer the solution of delegation.  It's supposed to be special.  Let's keep it that way.

Ontario Bakery knows the importance of a beautiful day and we are here to customize your wedding cake to exactly your needs. Allow our bakers to take some of the stress of wedding planning away and you will feel loads lighter!  Give us a call, and happy wedding planning!
