The Best Way to Say Goodbye To Summer & Get Kids Excited About School

The Best Way to Say Goodbye To Summer & Get Kids Excited About SchoolSummer, for most children, is the best time of the year. It's no wonder too! Schedules are more
relaxed, homework has disappeared and the days are long enough to play forever. So why would they want to say goodbye to that? Why would they get excited about school, of all things?

Well, at Ontario Bakery, we know children, and you do too. They tend to love things once they've gotten started. But to bridge that gap and get them excited earlier, we've rounded up a plan for you.

Make it Fun, With Our Favorite Way to Say Goodbye To Summer & Get Kids Excited About School!

Throw an end of summer party.

It's got to be really good.

Pool together a list of your child's friends and favorite school mates, along with a few older kids from the grades above them, if they are connected. Make sure there are at least a few from your child's school. (If you're child is going to be at a new school this year, hurry up and get on some local parent forums or connect with the school itself to help you find a couple other families to connect with ahead of time.)

Make fun little invites and send them in the mail. The best time to plan this party is the week or weekend before school actually starts. If that's not possible, make if for the week after school starts. This will ensure that more kids can come, and gives new kids the chance to join in as well. Hey, if you're feeling especially brave, do both!

At the party, have the kids' favorite board games. Try to choose ones that stimulate the mind a little bit. Boggle, Yahtzee, Monopoly and Twister are great!

Have outdoor activities; but not overly structured. Pools, slip and slide and children's horseshoes are good as well.

Have the parents of the kids come as well if they can so the parents can chat about their school year plans as well...  (But in another room please! The kids are growing and will likely prefer a little space!)

Kids can bring last year's yearbook or other photos to share and laugh about.

Lastly, make sure there's a cake and even some presents. This needs to feel fun, but not cheesy. Gift each child a journal or a pack of nice pens, art supplies, or even a good fiction book that they can all read together during the school year to take their minds off of the learning. They will really appreciate this. As for the cake, who doesn't appreciate cake? At Ontario Bakery, you can even order yours fully customized. Put all the student names on the cake, or their school, or mascot.. the options are endless and always delicious!

Don't let summer end with sadness. Make it fun and help them prepare for this next school year excited and connected to the kids around them. They're worth it!

6 Sweet Ideas to Celebrate Your Anniversary With

6 Sweet Ideas to Celebrate Your Anniversary WithAnniversaries are a fun time to celebrate. But as the years pass by, schedules get packed, you have kids to consider and life is just more complicated, it can be hard to come up with a way to celebrate. However, at Ontario Bakery, we’ve been the bakers of sweetness at so many weddings and have followed love through the years and we have ideas we want to share!
Here are 6 sweet ways to celebrate your anniversary:
Focus on the Two of You, Not on Gifts
Make it special. Gifts are great, but they aren’t the only way to show your love. Think outside the box and consider ways to give gifts of service. Commit to making dinner for a week and following up with a foot rub at bedtime. Do something for them that will make them give a sigh of relief and know they are valued. Another idea is to simply spend an evening sitting on the floor and talking. No phones, no media, just the two of you. You’d be surprised at the bonding that will happen and it may become a ritual!

Take a Mini Trip
It’s not easy to go on vacation all the time, so how about a long weekend? If your the outdoor type, go camping. If you’re a luxury type, find a beautiful hotel and order room service. Maybe you’d like to meet somewhere in the middle. You could go somewhere 2 hours away, stay at a bed and breakfast or a wellness resort and spend some time without media and more talking and laughing.

Go Back to the Beginning.
Regardless of whether it’s there or not, revisit the place where you first met. Walk down the street. Go inside. Sit outside and look. Imagine what would have happened if you hadn’t crossed paths and look at all the good that’s happened because you did. Eat the same food. Listen to the same song. Maybe wear the same clothes? Make it fun.

Make Lists of the Things You Love about Each Other
This one takes some advance planning, but list one thing you love about your partner for each year you’ve been together, then exchange the lists on your anniversary. By the time you get done reading the list your partner made about you, you should be in a very romantic mood indeed.

Cake and Wine
Who does that? You do. You can enjoy and indulge in a rich red velvet cake and a bottle of red wine. Why not? Enjoy it in front of a fire or at the beach at sunset. Just allow your senses to overcome you and get lost in the moment. Share a kiss and let it take you away.

No matter what you decide to do, the key is to spend some time together remembering your years together and looking forward to the years you have left.

Ontario Bakery is in love with love. That’s why we are so many people’s first call for wedding, valentine’s, engagement and anniversary cakes custom made for each couple. Call us today and reserve yours!

Budget Friendly Birthday Party Ideas for Families With Multiple Kids!

Budget Friendly Birthday Party Ideas for Families With Multiple Kids!Birthdays aren’t easy to plan. There’s a lot of work that goes into it. Imagine if you have twins or children with their birthdays in the same week! You don’t want one to feel skimped and you don’t want to dip into your savings either!

With all the families we have worked with (and with our own), we at Ontario Bakery know what you need to know to have a budget friendly birthday party for multiple kids without compromising on the fun!

  1. For kids with birthdays near each other, celebrate one birthday a week or so early and the other, a week or so later. Discuss this with the kids and see how they feel. Explain the pro’s and con’s and come to a decision together.
  2. Lower your expectations. With people displaying their celebration triumphs all over pinterest and facebook, it’s hard to feel like your party will be ‘pin worthy’, but you have to let go of that ideal. Your party is for your child. Let them feel celebrated and keep it memorable. How your neighbors do it has nothing to do with the long term memories!
  3. Combine. This option works for some, but not others. Some kids are happy to share their birthday party with a sibling and others will feel swept aside. Doing it together may allow for more fun options like bounce house rentals or admission tickets to a fun park. Talk to your kids and see what seems fun to them!
  4. Cut your guest list. Not everyone has to come. Decide which family members can come and which friends your child is closest to. Go with the relationships that have meaning over the ones that are just there as party fillers.
  5. Order your cake custom made at Ontario Bakery. You can have both names on the cake or two mini cakes! Order cake pops as well, or any other custom need for sweets.
  6. Make it a potluck. Ask everyone to bring a snack. Picky eaters are satisfied and you’re not stuck over buying and then wasting.
  7. Meet at a park. Parks are free and you can usually reserve a picnic table for your party. Bring towels and swim clothes if it will be summer, so the kids can take advantage of swimming options if there are any!
  8. Choose usable party favors! Skip the dollar store kazoos. Those break and will be tossed. Instead, go with something that can be reused. Perhaps fun cookie cutters, a small kit, bubbles or similar.

Your party should be memorable for the people that were there and the children you celebrated. Remember, Ontario Bakery is always here for your custom cake and sweet needs. We bake special order cakes, cake pops, cookies and more for all celebrations from baby showers to weddings. Call us today and let us be a part of your next celebration!

Keep Wedding Planning Easy with These Fall Wedding Tips!

Keep Wedding Planning Easy with These Fall Wedding Tips!Fall weddings are wonderful to be part of. The days and nights are cool but not too crisp. The colors of changing leaves are all around and winter is just around the corner! At Ontario Bakery, we love preparing for fall weddings. And we want to tell you, we’ve had a lot of experience with them. We would be honored to share with you a few little tips we’ve learned, to ensure you have the best experience ever!

Your fall wedding deserves to be a memorable one. These tips will keep your smile wide and your day unforgettable.

Start with location.
Any standard reception hall will suffice but you may want to look into older inns, churches and garden-like locations as they are the perfect setting for every fall wedding. Apple orchards, vineyards and other floral landscapes are also suitable. Their warm colors and rustic feel will add charm and allure to your ambiance!

Colors and Decor
Fall colors are rich and warm, easily accented by the opposing bright colors most often found in common wedding ensembles. Jewel tones, off white and golds all accented by rich burgundy, orange, deep greens and slate blues are all beautiful at this time of the year. For decor, fill carved pumpkins with tealights or fill glass bowls with fresh cranberries and acorns. A mason jar filled with similar will create the same effect.

This time of year can be tricky. We advise that you dress for comfort. If the wedding gown is strapless, opt for a shawl or sweater in the accent color of your wedding party. Have space heaters on hand for possibly outdoor chill. Keep fabrics light with the option to layer. If indoors, you may overdress and be stuck in unnecessary heat.

Look around and notice which flowers are most in bloom. In general, rich roses, fall leaves, berries and twigs are wonderful choices for fall wedding floral arrangements. You can even collect small sticks and spray paint them in white or gold, to better accent your chosen colors but keep the feel of nature in your wedding.

The Cake

Any wedding cake is fitting for a fall wedding, but you can add to your autumn theme by using more autumn inspired flavors like, spiced, pumpkin, apple, or chocolate. Traditional cake flavors topped with fall fruit would also be a delicious idea. As an addition or alternative, you could create an interactive dessert station, serving a mix of different pies instead of a traditional cake.

At Ontario Bakery, we are dedicated to making your special day as unique as your love. Let us know how we can further help to customize your day!
