The Best Way to Say Goodbye To Summer & Get Kids Excited About School

The Best Way to Say Goodbye To Summer & Get Kids Excited About SchoolSummer, for most children, is the best time of the year. It's no wonder too! Schedules are more
relaxed, homework has disappeared and the days are long enough to play forever. So why would they want to say goodbye to that? Why would they get excited about school, of all things?

Well, at Ontario Bakery, we know children, and you do too. They tend to love things once they've gotten started. But to bridge that gap and get them excited earlier, we've rounded up a plan for you.

Make it Fun, With Our Favorite Way to Say Goodbye To Summer & Get Kids Excited About School!

Throw an end of summer party.

It's got to be really good.

Pool together a list of your child's friends and favorite school mates, along with a few older kids from the grades above them, if they are connected. Make sure there are at least a few from your child's school. (If you're child is going to be at a new school this year, hurry up and get on some local parent forums or connect with the school itself to help you find a couple other families to connect with ahead of time.)

Make fun little invites and send them in the mail. The best time to plan this party is the week or weekend before school actually starts. If that's not possible, make if for the week after school starts. This will ensure that more kids can come, and gives new kids the chance to join in as well. Hey, if you're feeling especially brave, do both!

At the party, have the kids' favorite board games. Try to choose ones that stimulate the mind a little bit. Boggle, Yahtzee, Monopoly and Twister are great!

Have outdoor activities; but not overly structured. Pools, slip and slide and children's horseshoes are good as well.

Have the parents of the kids come as well if they can so the parents can chat about their school year plans as well...  (But in another room please! The kids are growing and will likely prefer a little space!)

Kids can bring last year's yearbook or other photos to share and laugh about.

Lastly, make sure there's a cake and even some presents. This needs to feel fun, but not cheesy. Gift each child a journal or a pack of nice pens, art supplies, or even a good fiction book that they can all read together during the school year to take their minds off of the learning. They will really appreciate this. As for the cake, who doesn't appreciate cake? At Ontario Bakery, you can even order yours fully customized. Put all the student names on the cake, or their school, or mascot.. the options are endless and always delicious!

Don't let summer end with sadness. Make it fun and help them prepare for this next school year excited and connected to the kids around them. They're worth it!
