Reasons You SHOULDN’T Bake That Birthday Cake You Loved on Pinterest.

Reasons You SHOULDN’T Bake That Birthday Cake You Loved on Pinterest.
Sure. We all love browsing through pinboards looking for our favorite inspirational tips and ideas to help us create picture perfect everything. But is that really what you want to do? It’s time to look at the reality for a moment.
  1. A majority of the pictures aren’t real. And the ones that are real, are done by women who run their businesses around baking and food. Great for them - lot’s of work for you!
  2. The cakes in the photos are far more complicated than you realize and the cost to get all the little (and big) tools needed to make it just right - might break the bank!
  3. Time. Do you really have time to pour into a 7 step cake process that involves hours of waiting, cooling and decorating? Not many people do.
Now I get it. You love the smell of a freshly baked cake, like the one you used to enjoy when you were at your grandparent's house as a child. And you also love knowing the cake looks just the way you wanted it to.  But what if you could have the home baked goodness without the stress and time commitment?

We believe you deserve both the delicious enjoyment of the 'baked at home' birthday cake but the relaxation of not doing it yourself.

What do we love about the cake baked at home?

  • taste - a frozen cake just can't compare to the taste home baked
  • quality - cakes made in bulk are missing the quality and care
  • cost - home baked cakes are more affordable on the budget and you get more for your money
  • memories - there's something about a home baked cake that creates lasting memories years later

See what I’m talking about? You could have the cake without the hassle. Just call your local family owned bakers (because we all know families do it best!) and ask about your custom made options.  And if you’re in Southern California, let us take on the job for you!

We started Ontario Bakery many years ago, because we wanted to provide a place for you and yours to get the perfect customized cake, cupcakes and other treats to celebrate your special day, without loosing the homemade quality and care.  Your guests will never know your grandmother didn't make it!
As a family and bakery, we are still committed to going above and beyond. Our cake and buttercream recipes are the original scratch recipes that we've used since the beginning. The cakes we make, say it all: quality, uniqueness and a true desire for a good tasting cake to serve your guests. Our cakes are made to order with the options of various icings and even a long list of fillings that are sure to make you come back for more!

So skip the over-pinspiration. And this year? Put your feet up and have your favorite local baker on for the job.

Toss the Guilt! Do You Realize How Many Health Benefits Chocolate Holds For You?

Toss the Guilt! Do You Realize How Many Health Benefits Chocolate Holds For You? More and more people are discovering the benefits of chocolate. It’s beneficial for your heart, metabolism and mood as well! Does this mean, you should move in to your local bakery? Not necessarily, but it does mean that when you are ready to indulge, you can do so with a lot less guilt!
Chocolate has gotten a lot of write ups and coverage recently about the research being developed around the benefits it holds for the cardiovascular and metabolic system. The reasoning being that the cocoa bean is rich in a class of plant nutrients are due to the flavonoids, antioxidants and flavanols.
Flavonoids help protect plants from environmental toxins and help repair damage. They can be found in a variety of foods, such as fruits and vegetables. When we eat foods rich in flavonoids, it appears that we also benefit from this "antioxidant" power.
Antioxidants are believed to help the body's cells resist damage caused by free radicals that are formed by normal bodily processes, such as breathing, and from environmental contaminants, like cigarette smoke. If your body does not have enough antioxidants to combat the amount of oxidation that occurs, it can become damaged by free radicals.
Flavanols are the main type of flavonoid found in cocoa and chocolate. In addition to having antioxidant qualities, research shows that flavanols have other potential influences on vascular health, such as lowering blood pressure, improving blood flow to the brain and heart, and making blood platelets less sticky and able to clot.
Isn’t that exciting? When you include a pure, high quality form of chocolate, you can really strengthen your immune system! Be sure to follow a balanced diet, complete with ample servings of fruits and green leafy vegetables, and finish it off with a serving of anti-oxidant rich dark chocolate.
And when you're ready for a little more indulgence, order your very own custom made cake for your special event, birthday or wedding from Ontario Bakery. We know delicious and do it very well!

Having a Fall Wedding? Now’s the Time to Handle The Details!

Having a Fall Wedding? Now’s the Time to Handle The Details!

As summer comes to a close, we realize that fall is just around the corner. And if you’re planning a wedding, you need to get your head out of the summer and into the details of your long awaited celebration. This can be the hardest time to plan because we’ve all been on a mental (or physical) vacation, enjoying the sun and the time off. And getting into a planning flow can be a challenge. So we want to share some simple tips to help you get the momentum going again so you aren’t stuck planning details at the last moment.
We Ontario Bakery, want you to have the best wedding possible so here are some fall wedding planning tips to get you back into the excited celebration mood.

Elements
Every wedding is made even more beautiful by accenting the design with pieces inspired by the season you’re in. In this case, with fall, we’ve got falling leaves, drying branches, pumpkins, apples, spices…
Some ideas to involve these elements are to have your guest sign in list surrounded by leaves and bark paper or to arrange tea lights on little branch cuts on tables.  You can also add a touch of the seasonal harvest here and there, but instead of leaving them at their farm fresh colors, paint them gold and wrap them in a color ribbon you’re using in the wedding party’s attire.

Color
Have you determined your focus and accent colors for the wedding?
You want to make sure you mix bold Autumn colors with a contrast of natural textures to accent.

When choosing colors, be sure to choose warm and dark. Use rich chocolate browns, burgundy and burnt orange, with decor accents of burlap, velvet, and natural elements such as wood slices and blocks.
If you have the option to have the ceremony at sunset with the reception under the stars or basking in the moonlight, then please do it.

For Beauty
Add accents of gold or even copper to your eyes. Have fun with a nude lip or go rich with a smooth bordeaux color. Hair done up and out of the face will keep those colors rich without overwhelming the picture and still accenting your dress.

For food
Food is especially fun to play with at a fall wedding. Use spices like clove, cardamom and cinnamon. As an added touch to bring more warmth during the eating time, you can brighten up the ambience with golden stringed lights around the reception area.

Preparing for a fall wedding is more than a fun affair; it gets you connected to the time of year in a very special and unique way.

We at Ontario Bakery specialize in customized wedding and special occasion cakes. We know how important it is to have your delicious accent piece compliment your day perfectly without stealing the show.
