Simple Tips Every Bride Needs for Way Less Wedding Planning Stress

Simple Tips Every Bride Needs for Way Less Wedding Planning Stress Weddings should be a fun event but planning them can really steal the magic away. There are details to plan and budgets to keep to, all on top of the physical pressures brides tend to face. So we want to help you minimize as much of that stress as we possibly can, by giving you some tried and true tips to have way less wedding stress and far more fun and magic. Enjoy these tips from both our family at Ontario Bakery and the experts of Brides.com.

Annoying as it is, sticking to a budget is a big blessing. Blowing through all your savings on your big day is bound to create some serious anxiety and stress in your relationship. That's why Dr. Orma recommends making your ceremony/reception as close to your dream wedding as you can, keeping in mind what you can easily afford and what you can't. After all, "Money is one of the top stressors for people."

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Because of their control issues, perfectionists often have a hard time asking for assistance when they need it the most. "Don't try to do it all yourself," warns Dr. Orma. "Hire people to help you if you can afford it." Awedding planner who shares the same tastes and a similar style to you can be a perfectionist bride's BFF.

Make self care your number one. Perfectionist or not, wedding planning can be extremely stressful, and sometimes under stress we forget to do the basics, like eating, sleeping and resting, says Dr. Orma. "Self care is vital." Treat yourself to a nice massage or go for a run outside to release those endorphins.

You’ve got to have boundaries. Believe it or not, many perfectionists also tend to be people pleasers so it's important to not only set some boundaries with yourself, but with others too. "Don't take on more than you can handle and be willing to say no to pushy relatives or friends who try to tell you what to do," advises Dr. Orma.

Buy a dress you can move in and eat in. Before you say yes to the dress, make sure you're completely comfortable in it and can dance, move, walk, bend over and sit down with ease. "If it's too tight or not the style you wanted, that will only create discomfort and stress," cautions Dr. Orma.

For heaven’s sake, don’t wait. Procrastination and perfectionism often go hand in hand so do allow yourself enough time to plan the wedding of your dreams. "Pace yourself and take plenty of breaks," suggests Dr. Orma. And remember not to let indecision get the best of you. Once you've settled on a color scheme, theme or any idea really, stop perusing wedding blogs and Pinterest for inspiration.

Only hire a baker with a good reputation. No matter where you are in the nation, it’s important to go with a trusted bakery for your wedding cake. This is a centerpiece that will not only be photographed but enjoyed by all. It should be the right color, size and flavor with the perfects accents to compliment your wedding ambiance. Check out reviews. Go in for a tasting. If you’re in the Orange County or Los Angeles area, we at Ontario Bakery are happy to serve you. You can even meet with one of our experienced cake stylists to make sure your cake is the perfect match!

Those tips are golden and will save you a world of stress and frustration and we hope you’re able to use them right away. This is your day, so let it be great, not just then but starting today. And remember, whatever the sweet need, we at Ontario Bakery are ready and excited to make your day wonderful and memorable because you deserve nothing less!

Looking for Creative and Delicious Ways to Enjoy Cherry Season? We’ve Got You Covered! Cherry season is finally here and you’re stocking up. But you can’t just binge on a bucket of cherries; that’s a digestive nightmare, right? And you don’t want to let them go to waste after days of not knowing how to prepare or enjoy them either. So instead of letting lack of creativity rob you of the cherry indulgence you’re ready for, use these yummy tips and spare not a single one!

Why Cherries anyway? Well not only are they delicious, but they’re known for having a good handful of health benefits. They have been shown to lower cholesterol and triglycerides, reduce inflammation, arthritis, and pain, and help stop weight gain. If you eat about 10 cherries each day, the week before menstruation women have said you will experience an easier cycle and reduced cramps. Some reports have even said that eating 20 cherries a day can ward off inflammation altogether. They also contain a high amount of antioxidants which are vital for preserving cells and protecting them against damage from free radicals or cancer.

But maybe you already know that? Regardless, Let’s dive into the yummy tips!

Go for chocolate-dipped. Cherries LOVE chocolate, so get the fondue! Invite your friends over and have them be the perfect end to a summer dinner. Be sure to have a bowl for the pits.  This one will give your gifts a little classy with a little messy!

Real cherry coke. Yes it’s possible and with way less calories! Grab a traditional coke or one of the great natural brands of cola, pit and slice some cherries and drop them in the glass! Add a teaspoon of natural vanilla, let it sit for a few minutes - add ice and then enjoy your own real cherry coke!

Cherry muesli. Add sliced cherries to oatmeal or yogurt and know that the cherries are fresh with nothing artificial added to them. If nothing else, blend the cherries in with your morning protein shake! or yogurt.

Cherries a la mode.  Scoop some chocolate or vanilla ice cream in a bowl and add those cherries! Who doesn't like cherries in their ice cream?

Want to go even further? Bake a cake or cupcakes and add cherries for a final touch, or slice them and bake them into the batter. Whatever you choose, it will be a hit and we can’t wait to hear how it turns out for you!

Ontario Bakery loves cherries too!  Order up a cherry chocolate cake for your next special event!  Or what about some cherry chocolate chip cookies?  Whatever the order, we are here to make your day that much more sweet! Call us today!

Beat the Heat the Summer With These Very Cool Birthday Party Ideas!

Beat the Heat the Summer With These Very Cool Birthday Party Ideas! We’ve reached the high temperatures but kids still want to have fun. And you’ve got the pressure of planning the party, right? The good news is that you can absolutely have the party hit of the year, without the sweat the summer usually brings. At Ontario Bakery we know hot weather and sweets better than anyone, so use these tips and see where they take you.

Jump around! Kids everywhere love a good collection of air filled bounce houses and slides. A bounce party is an excellent way for your child and his friends to stay active while celebrating. As with the laser tag facilities, check in to their private party room and food options.  With this one, encourage a couple parents to stick around and have a few ice packs around to soothe possible bumps from all fun!

Get wet! If you must have the party outside, find a shady park, and then bring out the water. For a fun game, instead of hot potato,  you can pass the ice cube and see how far it will go before it melts!  Stock pile your party with supplies for fun activities like, water balloon toss, slip and slide and even water guns if your kids are old enough to enjoy them respectfully. Be sure to bring the sunscreen though!

Swim, slip and slide! Whether an indoor or outdoor water park, or even a simple pool, this is an excellent way to beat the heat while keeping with the summer theme. A pool party is always a good choice in the summer. Fun indoors and out. If you have a wave pool in your area, consider giving it a try. Wave pools add a whole new dynamic to the pool party experience. Make sure your children and their guests know how to swim well before scheduling a birthday party for him at the pool. Be sure that parents of non-swimmers plan to stay and supervise their own!

Head indoors! Laser tag is a favorite activity of kids everywhere and is usually fun for kids of all ages. Make sure to talk to the manager however about arranging a birthday party and getting your space reserved as well as rules and requirements. Usually they will a private space available for parties and may even have food and drink options available.  Be sure to get permission if you are wanting to provide your own food.  Although, with the rise in food sensitivities, this should be a problem!

Still indoors…. Do a quick search online and find an arcade to party the time away in. Encourage the kids to play multi-player games to make sure they experience the party together. See if they have a party room so you have a place of refuge to have your snacks and gift time!

Have cool treats! Stock up on cold food! Keep fresh fruit around, cold cut sandwiches and maybe even have a custom made ice cream cake, from us!

It's easy to for kids to have fun without the sun. You just have to get creative and take advantage of your options. Make sure you plan ahead so you get to have your first pic on the day you are wanting!! And of course, we want to be a part of your celebration!  Call us and let us know how we can provide the best custom cupcakes, birthday cake and even cookies for your party!

Ontario Bakery is family owned and run and loves to support the families of Southern California in every celebration!

Easy Ideas To Throw a Beautiful Engagement Party Without Breaking The Bank

Easy Ideas To Throw a Beautiful Engagement Party Without Breaking The BankYou want to celebrate this next phase in the relationship and you want it to be good. But you don’t feeling like draining your savings to do it. After all, the real fun is the wedding, right? At Ontario Bakery, we’ve had our fair share of planning around weddings and engagements and we want you to know - you really can have your cake and eat it too; you just need to follow a few simple ideas.

First of all, go minimal. You don’t need to go all out. Think of the engagement as a preview of the wedding. Imagine the wedding and then pull back. Have the party at someone’s home. Or, if you want to book a venue, go with a smaller one. You also have the option of going to a restaurant where you can book a back room or private area.

Next on the list, is to make sure you hire a professional photographer. As said before, imagine the wedding. You’ll have a photographer providing you great photos that you’ll store in an album and look through for years to come. What you don’t want is to have amature photos for the engagement and then pro photos later on. So hire a photographer for both events to keep it consistent and beautiful. You’ll be so glad you did.

Last on the list is to make sure you’re getting the right photos. Have one day set aside for just the couple, gazing into each other’s eyes, holding hands and being together. Then you want the same photographer (consistency) to be present at the party to capture all the fun, the kisses and the general romance in the air.

Ontario bakery  is committed to always delivering the best advice and desserts for your celebration. We’d be honored to provide you with a custom cake or other sweets of your choosing, to finish the night well! Remember, Ontario Bakery takes pride in your celebration and we do hope you come to us first  for your custom wedding cake needs when the time comes!

Keep Kids Busy Without The Screentime With These Creative Summer Activities

Keep Kids Busy Without The Screentime With These Creative Summer ActivitiesSummer is a time for adventure. But in this day and age of tablets and video games, kids are getting more easily bored. So we say it’s time to revive the spirit of adventure and creativity in and awaken childhood imagination again so that this summer can be exciting, memorable and include far less screen time!

At Ontario Bakery, we love families. We’ve been serving them for years as a family ourselves; so we know a thing or two about the challenges they face. That being said, we want to share some very helpful, tried and true, simple tips to activating imaginations and getting those creative outdoor juices flowing!

First of all, if you live in a house, make sure your yard is child friendly and imagination inspiring. Have log stumps, shovels, stick piles and other open ended tools around for kids to play with and be creative.

Create an explorer shelf or box full of things like containers, nets, a magnifying glass and such to encourage them to explore even more. Have a basket, shelf or corner on the porch, deck or in the bedroom where the kids can display the nature treasures that they find and want to keep.  Encourage them to tell you all about it and be excited!

When you take children to parks and other natural areas, allow them the freedom to really explore. It's easy for adults to fall into forcing their children to act like adults.  But this is the time to really let them explore!

See what natural resources available in your area. Take children canoeing, kayaking, fishing or on a good hike. Have your children collect treasures they find and then create a photo or memory album to tell the story of what they experienced.

Just be sure to encourage the fresh air activities and be adventurous to get out there yourselves!!  If you want to top off the day with a sumptuous sweet, give us a call at Ontario Bakery and we'll bake you up the perfect treat!

Make the Most of Strawberry Season With These Sweet Tooth Satisfying Treats!

Make the Most of Strawberry Season With These Sweet Tooth Satisfying Treats! Who doesn’t love strawberries? This is the time when they’re in their sweetest and freshest bloom and we’re loving it. From cakes and cupcakes to pies and jams, we’re getting creative at the bakery and think you should enjoy the delicious fun too! So head to the store, pick up a some strawberries and let’s get snacking!
Start with slices. Want something super simple? These berries are great on their own. So simply slice those red beauties along with thin slices of cucumbers, drizzled with honey and garnished with chopped mint.  Place in the freezer for a gentle freeze and take out after about 30 min. You'll have a wonderfully refreshing desert that's healthy too!
Dip and spread! Spread nutella on the strawberries and pop them into your mouth. Or, go a little further and place both the berries and nutella on a slice of toast!  Great mid-day pick me up!
Sundae fun! Get out those delicious berries and dip them in some slightly softened chocolate ice cream!  If you'd like to avoid the mess, just scoop some into a bowl, add the strawberries and some chopped nuts to the mix.  That's an easy pleaser!
Rich and whipped. This is one of my favorites and a spin off of strawberry shortcake. Place some bananas in the freezer for about 20 minutes; just enough to chill them.  Chop some strawberry chunks and add to the bananas- wither whole or sliced.  Last, add whipped cream and indulge!!
Start fresh! Why not start your day with strawberries too? Just make some quick oats, rice farina or whatever grain based porridge you prefer.  Chop cashews, hazelnuts and strawberries, drizzle some maple syrup and stir.  Enjoy a tasty start to your day!
As you can see, strawberries are a fun and healthy way to start your summer. And of course, if you’re looking for an even more decadent or decorated experience, contact us for a custom baked strawberry dream come true! Ontario Bakery is the place to find exciting treats and delicious cakes for all occasions. We love to celebrate with you and look forward to making your special day even sweeter.

How to Plan the Perfect Wedding Without Spending a Fortune!

Plan the Perfect Wedding Without Spending a Fortune! Just because you want a beautiful wedding, doesn’t mean you’re going to have to clean out your savings. It’s totally possible to have a dream come true wedding without cutting corners and still keeping money in the bank. The trick is in knowing where you should skimp and save and where you shouldn’t; and there are a few ways to do that.
First of all, keep in mind that everything will be documented in photographs, so realize that what you want to remember should look elegant, and true to your overall vision. That being said, priority areas for investment will definitely need to include photography. If you want to have a friend or family member do your photos, that’s totally fine, but check through their portfolio to make sure they have the skills to create a great photo, as well as the eye to capture a perfect moment.
Keep your guest list small. You’ll naturally be tempted to throw everyone you know on your guest list, that isn’t always a great idea. With each addition you make, you’re adding additional costs while also making your wedding less intimate. Write down your list. Then cross off who you can. Then do it once more. When crossing off, think of people that you’re only inviting because you feel obligated, or the ones you know for sure wouldn’t come anyway.
Make your invitations. There’s no need to invest a fortune on cards that people are likely not to keep? Instead, handwrite a lovely note, and include a useable photo your guest can keep for themselves. If you want to go a little further, sprinkle some gold and silver glitter or confetti in the card and envelope. Simple is best.
Ask for acts of service before, during and after the wedding instead of a gift. It’s a great way to keep your wedding on a budget. Think of the services you need but can’t afford to pay for and lovingly ask your talented friends and family to serve you in that helpful and memorable way.
Go with a garden, park, or in-home ceremony. Renting a building or event room for your wedding and reception can be very expensive. Instead, think about having your wedding in your own or someone else’s home or perhaps a park with a beautiful view. Keep in mind that weather can be unpredictable, so it’s important to be prepared with an all weather tent that will fit all of your guests and wedding party.
Create your own bouquet. Don’t pay for flowers that will just die. Gather simple wildflowers native to your area and decorate simply. Accent with affordable picks like queen anne’s lace and lavender or pine, and you’re sure to have a beautiful and fragrant addition to your day.
Create an exclusive buffet table. Instead of paying for catering, go back to the idea of asking for help. Who’s a great cook? See if that person (people) would be willing to prepare a simple meal or snacks for the reception. Home cooked tastes best anyway!
Choose a local bakery for your cake or have a trusted friend or family member do the job. If you want multiple tiers, think of going with less flowers and designs to keep the costs down. The more simple the design, the better.
In the end, think about what matters most to you, what you want to remember and which details you’re likely to forget. Carefully placed sprigs of lavender will be more appealing in the memory than expensive gold centerpieces, for example.
You know best what you want for your special day.

Want to Plan a Romantic Beach Wedding? Here's How!

Want to Plan a Romantic Beach Wedding? Here’s How! Beach weddings are something many brides fantasize about but not many are aware of the big and little details needed to plan for to have the perfect romantic beach wedding. If you knew what it took to plan, would you have one? We want to share our big tips so that if this is an idea that lights you up, you can truly make it happen.

Plan your colors wisely. The beach itself should be the decorative inspiration for the colors you choose: Icy blues, coral pinks, and sunset hues make great seaside palettes. Go with sandy, natural tones—raw linen and canvas, natural rope and jute, bleached wood—the colors that come straight from the shore. For accent colors, go with beachy colors like coral, teal, white, and cream get an elegant upgrade when paired with silver, gold, or rose gold.

Want to go more minimalistic? An all-white party on the beach can be especially chic, especially when you ask your guests to wear white, turning them into the ultimate design statement, as well.

Get the right flowers. Choose flowers endemic to a region. Depending on the location, you could try Montauk daisies, beach roses, or blue hydrangeas. In tropical locations, orchids are a great option. For a very hot day, orchids and callas are your toughest, hardiest stems. Delicate field flowers such as lily of the valley will wilt in the heat, even if they're in water.

For the ceremony.  Many people love the idea of a wedding at sunset, because it’s beautiful. However, the guests may have the sun directly in their eyes, which can make it a bit of a challenge to enjoy the ceremony. Luckily, planning well, there’s a simple fix to this by placing chairs at a slight angle.

Prepare for uninvited guests. An outdoor wedding can mean bugs—nothing ruins a ceremony like being eaten alive! Hand out communal bug spray, or individual bug wipes like Avon Skin-So-Soft towelettes. You can also employ an eco-friendly exterminator to fog the entire area with insect repellant before guests arrive.

For the cake, prepare for the outdoors. Ask your baker how long the cake can sit out—if the timeline is too limited, have it delivered later, or ask if your caterer has space in the refrigerator. (Just let the cake come to room temperature before cutting and serving). Pass on the traditional cheesecakes or cream cheese fillings for red velvet cakes or carrot cakes, as they're more likely to spoil in the heat.

A beach wedding is totally within your reach when you know how to plan it right. Take note of these details and you’ll be well on your way to a beautiful memory in the making! And remember, for those southern California coastal weddings, Ontario Bakery is the bakery for you. Call us and ask about our custom cake and delivery options!

Don’t Graduate from College Without Doing These 5 Memory Making Things First!

Don’t Graduate from College Without Doing These 5 Memory Making Things First!College has been a wild ride with ups, downs and everything in between. You’ve got enough stories to tell to last you until your grandkids are ready to listen. Unfortunately, memories fade and as the years go by, you’ll begin to forget the the times you loved so well. So as graduation approaches, we want to share some great ways to keep the memories alive, so that as more time goes by, the memories don’t fade.
So how do you do that? Glad you asked.
Photos forever.  Think back over the years and recall the people that made a difference in your life.  Professors, friends, near by cafe’s? Maybe a mentor or administrator? Even if you're convinced that you'll stay in touch with these folks for years, take a picture anyway. You can laugh at how young everyone looked when you're old and gray and reminiscing about all the silly things you did in college.

Remember the food. Food makes memories too! Eat the food you love and eat the foods you thought were strange. Take pictures. These are great stories to share.

Share your gratitude. Thank the people who helped pay your way. If anyone including scholarships, your parents, or others helped pay your way through school, make sure to let them know how much you appreciate their support. One suggestion: Include a picture of you in your cap and gown on graduation day in a simple but heartfelt thank-you note.

Honor your favorite professors. Chances are one professor in particular stands out for the influence he or she had on you during your time in school. Tell them "thanks" before you leave. You can thank them in person, write an email, or even leave a small thank-you note (and gift?) for them on graduation day. Then be sure to grab a photo with them, so the memory stays strong.

Capture your college world. It may seem silly now, but won't it be fun to look back at how you looked and what your room/home looked like 5, 10, 20 years from now? Don't let something so special become something easily forgotten!

These years are meant to be magic so make sure you remember them! Ontario Bakery is here to provide the food! Contact us for custom, cakes, cookies and more!
