Want to Plan a Romantic Beach Wedding? Here's How!

Want to Plan a Romantic Beach Wedding? Here’s How! Beach weddings are something many brides fantasize about but not many are aware of the big and little details needed to plan for to have the perfect romantic beach wedding. If you knew what it took to plan, would you have one? We want to share our big tips so that if this is an idea that lights you up, you can truly make it happen.

Plan your colors wisely. The beach itself should be the decorative inspiration for the colors you choose: Icy blues, coral pinks, and sunset hues make great seaside palettes. Go with sandy, natural tones—raw linen and canvas, natural rope and jute, bleached wood—the colors that come straight from the shore. For accent colors, go with beachy colors like coral, teal, white, and cream get an elegant upgrade when paired with silver, gold, or rose gold.

Want to go more minimalistic? An all-white party on the beach can be especially chic, especially when you ask your guests to wear white, turning them into the ultimate design statement, as well.

Get the right flowers. Choose flowers endemic to a region. Depending on the location, you could try Montauk daisies, beach roses, or blue hydrangeas. In tropical locations, orchids are a great option. For a very hot day, orchids and callas are your toughest, hardiest stems. Delicate field flowers such as lily of the valley will wilt in the heat, even if they're in water.

For the ceremony.  Many people love the idea of a wedding at sunset, because it’s beautiful. However, the guests may have the sun directly in their eyes, which can make it a bit of a challenge to enjoy the ceremony. Luckily, planning well, there’s a simple fix to this by placing chairs at a slight angle.

Prepare for uninvited guests. An outdoor wedding can mean bugs—nothing ruins a ceremony like being eaten alive! Hand out communal bug spray, or individual bug wipes like Avon Skin-So-Soft towelettes. You can also employ an eco-friendly exterminator to fog the entire area with insect repellant before guests arrive.

For the cake, prepare for the outdoors. Ask your baker how long the cake can sit out—if the timeline is too limited, have it delivered later, or ask if your caterer has space in the refrigerator. (Just let the cake come to room temperature before cutting and serving). Pass on the traditional cheesecakes or cream cheese fillings for red velvet cakes or carrot cakes, as they're more likely to spoil in the heat.

A beach wedding is totally within your reach when you know how to plan it right. Take note of these details and you’ll be well on your way to a beautiful memory in the making! And remember, for those southern California coastal weddings, Ontario Bakery is the bakery for you. Call us and ask about our custom cake and delivery options!

Don’t Graduate from College Without Doing These 5 Memory Making Things First!

Don’t Graduate from College Without Doing These 5 Memory Making Things First!College has been a wild ride with ups, downs and everything in between. You’ve got enough stories to tell to last you until your grandkids are ready to listen. Unfortunately, memories fade and as the years go by, you’ll begin to forget the the times you loved so well. So as graduation approaches, we want to share some great ways to keep the memories alive, so that as more time goes by, the memories don’t fade.
So how do you do that? Glad you asked.
Photos forever.  Think back over the years and recall the people that made a difference in your life.  Professors, friends, near by cafe’s? Maybe a mentor or administrator? Even if you're convinced that you'll stay in touch with these folks for years, take a picture anyway. You can laugh at how young everyone looked when you're old and gray and reminiscing about all the silly things you did in college.

Remember the food. Food makes memories too! Eat the food you love and eat the foods you thought were strange. Take pictures. These are great stories to share.

Share your gratitude. Thank the people who helped pay your way. If anyone including scholarships, your parents, or others helped pay your way through school, make sure to let them know how much you appreciate their support. One suggestion: Include a picture of you in your cap and gown on graduation day in a simple but heartfelt thank-you note.

Honor your favorite professors. Chances are one professor in particular stands out for the influence he or she had on you during your time in school. Tell them "thanks" before you leave. You can thank them in person, write an email, or even leave a small thank-you note (and gift?) for them on graduation day. Then be sure to grab a photo with them, so the memory stays strong.

Capture your college world. It may seem silly now, but won't it be fun to look back at how you looked and what your room/home looked like 5, 10, 20 years from now? Don't let something so special become something easily forgotten!

These years are meant to be magic so make sure you remember them! Ontario Bakery is here to provide the food! Contact us for custom, cakes, cookies and more!

Perfect Party Ideas for Awesome Kids Entering the Double Digits!

Perfect Party Ideas for Awesome Kids Entering the Double Digits! Turning ten is a big deal. The little kid years are behind you and there’s a world of new possibilities, privileges and even rides at your fingertips. Can you feel the magic they must feel? It’s huge and unlike any other birthday, so we think that’s reason to celebrate.
Here are some of what we think are the perfect party ideas for those awesome almost double digit superstars in your life:
Have three parties. You read that right; three. Why? Because they’re in transition and will love having a little of the old, a little of the new and a little of the safe and familiar.  To do this, plan one with your family, one with their older 'more grown up' friends and one with their friends from the younger crowd. Yes, you’ll need to be prepared for three cakes (lemon, chocolate, and another lemon) and plenty of ice cream flavors to choose from so they feel they’re safe to indulge in all they love as well as all that’s new to them!
Get them a pet or have them commit to caring for a neighbor's or family member's, if you can't do that.  Kids at this age feel bigger, want to help and love knowing that they have something/one to nurture and with this idea also comes responsibility.  If you decide it's best to donate your time and love, encourage the child to feed, walk and play with the nearby animal on a scheduled basis!
Take them shopping so they can begin to have their own personal style.  Sure, they may not always get the colors and textures right, but giving them the freedom of self expression will increase their confidence and self esteem.
As the big special day approaches, embrace it for all it has to offer and remember that it’s a big change for any child and they might get emotional. So relax.  Plan and prepare for the parties.  Ask your child what *they* want and don't be surprised if it's filled with contradiction.  In fact, that's the best time to filter each request and place it into the most suitable party.  Expect high imaginative moments and extreme emotions as they subconsciously deal with this milestone. They won't fully understand what they are going through, so be supportive and be excited.
We'd love to hear from you as you plan for that exciting time and would be honored to make the day even sweeter with our custom baked birthday cakes!  Contact us at Ontario Bakery and let us know how we can make your celebration as memorable as possible.

Mother’s Day is Coming and These Tips Will Help You Celebrate Her Beautifully!

Mother’s Day is Coming and These Tips Will Help You Celebrate Her Beautifully!
Mother's are miracles; I think we can all agree on that. And we’re talking about everyone who’s ever played the mother role. There are aunts, friends, grandmothers, foster moms, and even sisters that have shown up to be the mothers we hold so deeply in our hearts. That’s what makes Mother’s Day so beautiful. We get to honor the very people that were there for us and helped us become who we are today.

We want to share with you some very special ways that you can celebrate the mothers in your life in a way that they know how much you love and honor them.

House plants. More and more, women are shying away from a casual bouquet and really loving new houseplants. Of course, be sure you know how much of a green thumb they have, but if you don’t know, you can always go with simple succulents, as they’re beautiful and need hardly any care!

Pamper coupons. This is a great one, especially for the little ones to do for mom!  You could make a 5-15 page book full of redeemable coupons for caring services.  Make ones for foot rubs, doing the dishes, washing the car, doing the laundry and more!  But remember, she WILL redeem them, so plan them out carefully! If you’re wanting to step it up a notch, you can also hide a fancier coupon in her book for a massage or day at the spa!

Breakfast in Bed.  Now please, with this one, don't wake her up!  Keep it personalized to HER needs.  She may not want pancakes.  She might want fresh juice, a cup of tea and her favorite book!  Absolutely make sure she has a flower or a few sprigs of lavender and rosemary to bring a fresh and relaxing aroma to the morning.

Hire a driver and send her shopping and to lunch. Alone. Without anyone to take care of and with no time schedule. Imagine the surprise and excitement in her face when she's dolled up for lunch and finds a driver, door open, awaiting her presence.  She will be queen for a day!

Fancy night out. Get tickets to a play, the symphony or the ballet, arrange for her to get her hair done or to buy a dress, take her to dinner and then to the performance. Mom deserves a night of elegant entertainment, don’t you think? She’ll be the belle of the ball!

We’re so excited to share these special ways to celebrate the miracle of ‘mom’. And at Ontario Bakery, we want to be a part of your joy by providing custom delicious cakes, cupcakes and treats! If you're in the Orange County area, please get in touch and let us know how we can make your day even more special.

Simple Baking Tips for The Best Brownies Ever!

Simple Baking Tips for The Best Brownies Ever! It’s that time of year when the weather goes from warm to wet and it’s nice to have a plate of warm gooey brownies waiting for you after a long day. But making the perfect chewy chocolate dessert doesn’t have to be a challenge. It’s as simple as follow a few rules in the right way for the best after school or work snack you can imagine.

Only Use the Best Chocolate. It might feel like the simple solution to just get the easiest or least expensive brand, but you really want to go with a high-quality semisweet or bittersweet chocolate or cocoa when choosing your chocolate. Great brands include Scharrfen Berger, Saco, Ghirardelli, Droste, and Callebut chocolates.

Sift Your Cocoa Well. You don’t want to end up with powdered lumps in what should be smooth and velvety sweetness. So scoop the cocoa with a metal measuring spoon or cup, then sift or whisk gently with the flour.

Always Use the Right Pan. Using the right pan size and shape are important in any recipe, but it’s especially important when making brownies because the how deep the pan is, allows the batter to have that full tasted and rich texture. Shallow pans make chewy brownies while deeper pans make denser, cake-like bars.

Use a Spatula to Spread. It’s best to go with a small metal spatula because they’re better at spreading brownie batter and icing evenly. Goldman suggests dipping spatulas in hot water before using to keep brownie batter from sticking.

Don’t Over Cook. No one wants to end up with a pan full of hardened, dry bars. So to avoid this, place your brownie pans on baking sheets lined with parchment paper; this will keep the bottoms of the brownies from scorching before the tops are set.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about making your own brownies and now you know the secrets to making them just right. However, if it’s still too much to wrap your head around or you just don’t have the time, but still want the home-made touch, you Ontario Bakery can do it for you.  We’re the baking experts. Call us today to place your own, customized delicious order.

Simple Fun Birthday Ideas for Tween Girls That Are Hard to Please!

Simple Fun Birthday Ideas for Tween Girls That Are Hard to Please!

If you're planning a birthday party for a tween girl, you’re facing a big challenge. She doesn’t want the little girl stuff but she’s not quite ready for the big girl stuff either! So aside from knowing you need to stay away from the typical decor like balloons, banners or themed desserts, and the childhood games she’s outgrown, you need ideas that she’s going to find both fun and cool for her new age and stage!
Idea #1 Pamper Party
Invite a couple of your friends to be spa specialists (not the other girls mom’s preferably) to come and do the girls toes, nails and maybe even some facials. You could put face masks on them, paint their nails and toenails and even have stylish drinks with lemonade and grenadine with little umbrellas inside. If you want to go further with this one, book a makeup artist to do their make up and then bring them all to the movie and dinner later to show of their fabulous state.
#2. Tween’s Got Talent!
How about hosting a karaoke night?  You can rent out a machine at home or go out for the real experience!  Some places have age restrictions, but you usually have the option of renting out a little room out.  Add grabbing Chinese food to that mix and you've made a classic win.
#3. Take it Outside!
For a totally different feel, take the party outside and have an adventure day.  Here, you can go on a hike, build a raft, co canoeing.  If you have access to a lake or a little island, this is a great idea for everyone involved.
You could start things off with lunch out somewhere nice and then maybe they could get their nails done. Then have a movie night setup for when you get home, so they can put up their feet and chill into some more relaxing fun. Get some delicious treats and give the living room to them for a few hours.

Sure, the tween years can be hard, but they can be fun too with the right attitude, creativity and planning! At Ontario Bakery, we know birthdays.  It's one of the celebrations we do best. We'd love to make this day even more incredible, so please, visit our California location or give us a call!

Simple Tips to Finding the Perfect Florist for the Wedding of Your Dreams

Simple Tips to Finding the Perfect Florist for the Wedding of Your DreamsWeddings are hard to plan as it is and the last thing you need is for the flowers to be complicated. Flowers are the hallmark of your wedding, the eye catchers and final accent and flare. So make it good. Make them beautiful and simplify the process so you can get back to the fun of it all!

We want to share some tips for getting the perfect flowers and hiring the right florist.

Firstly, before you go "bouquet crazy," make sure to find out exactly which flowers are going to be in season at the time of your wedding.

Make sure to take some time to check out your local farmer's market. Talk with growers who sell cut flowers. Ask them questions, lots of questions. This tip is incredibly helpful if you are doing your own flowers.

Pick your favorite three florists and set up a time to interview them. Be sure to pick three though. Too many florists and you're drowning in info, too few florists and you're very limited.

Initially, when you visit a potential florist, don’t show them your ideas or your budget. Just ask a lot of questions around their best ideas, styles and budget plans. Ask what their procedure is if a flower is damaged/unavailable for your event, ask to see their portfolio, and ask how many weddings they book on a typical weekend, so you have an idea of how available they’ll be.

Look online at wholesalers and become familiar with how flowers are shipped. As an example, almost all garden roses must be ordered as an entire case. That's almost 100 blooms! If you only want garden roses in your bouquet and no where else your florist is going to be stuck with about 80 garden roses. In some floral shops, you will be charged for the full case, not just what you use.

Find out about hidden charges, delivery fees, etc before you make your choice. If you want your florist to set up your arrangements, you might have to pay for their gas plus an hourly fee.

DO NOT pay for petals! Have someone pick up a bouquet at a supermarket and have fun destroying the blooms yourself. It's an amazing stress reliever and you will be happy knowing that you didn't waste $10-$20 for someone else to rip them apart.

As always, we want the best for your big day and your floral experience should be beautiful and stress free! Remember that for those of you in the Southern California area, Ontario Bakery is here to make the perfect custom cake for any occasion!

4 Fun Game Ideas for Little Ones With Big Imaginations!

4 Fun Game Ideas for Little Ones With Big Imaginations!Little ones say and do the funniest things! It’s no wonder we love hanging out with them! But as I’m sure everyone can admit, sometimes you get a little stuck on what to do with them. What activities keep their attention and what games can you play? Well, whether you’re looking for things to do on a rainy day or fun games to play at the next birthday party, you’re going to love the tips we’ve got to share with you!

Have fun with feet!
Have fun as everyone enjoys taking of their socks and engaging those cute little toes! Show your young friends how to pick up small toys with your toes and put them in a bucket. For kids that are more ahead of the game, try picking up all of the yellow objects, then the blue, the red, etc. This is such a fun one and a great way to make cleaning more fun, when you can put toys away or clothes in the laundry.

Try a balloon toss!
Start by blowing up several balloons and then have the kids toss them back and forth. Try having them moving closer to each other and farther away from each other. Show them how to use different body parts (hands, elbows, heads) or blowing the balloon up in the air. See how many times your preschooler can bounce the balloon up before it falls to the ground. This is good because it also gives the small child a chance to be coordinated, as the balloon spends more time in the air.

Use those legs!
Have an adult or older kid in the room give directions like “run to the big tree, touch the bark, and come back,” or “run over to the slide, go down one time, and come back” or “run around the tree three times.” This one’s great not only for gross motor skills, but for listening carefully and following directions. Feel free to use less commands in the beginning and make them more challenging as you go along.

Hawaiian hula time!
This one needs some advance planning but it’s totally worth it. Invest in several different colored hula hoops. With this one, simply lay them on the ground. Next, give the child or children fun instructions such as “run to the red hula hoop and pretend to be a car,” or “hop over to the green hula hoop like a bunny.” They'll learn colors while exercising their fast thinking muscles too.

As you can see, playing and engaging with little ones helps them grow healthy, smart and strong! Whether it’s at home or for a fun party, Ontario Bakery has you covered with both the fun and the treats! We specialize in all the custom baked goods you’ve been looking for and we want to make your next party a hit! Contact us today and see what’s possible for your next celebration!

How To Plan the Perfect Wedding Reception Without Dipping into Your Savings!

How To Plan the Perfect Wedding Reception Without Dipping into Your Savings! Getting ready for the big day is fun and exciting but the costs can really add up and bring a lot of stress to the table. What you need is a few wedding planning ideas to cost less and be simple to arrange. And we at  Ontario Bakery  have learned a thing or two during our years in business and we want to share some tips to help you save money but not compromise on elegance or quality. So sit back, take notes and take a deep breath, knowing you’re in good hands!

Go simple but with style
Many times, the fancier rooms are far more expensive. But you can choose to rent a more plain room and decorate it yourself. Our two favorite ways to do that? Sheer fabric and white christmas lights. They can be hung from the ceiling, around tables, around the cake, or in potted plants. If you don’t want to use Christmas lights, consider lanterns instead. Then mount or hang the sheer fabric or curtains over the lights and you’ve got a sparkling night sky!

Make your own seat accents
Seat covers can be expensive to rent and a lot of work to make. Instead of using seat covers, get some beautiful wide ribbon to tie on the backs of the chairs to add some elegance and spruce things up. Ribbon is a cheap alternative compared to fancy seat covers. Enlist the help of friends to get the ribbons cut and tied for the big day.

Add small water fountains
A nice addition to the entrance of your reception would be a water fountain. It could even be a small one that you have in your home that sits on a table. The sound of a water fountain is so refreshing, and it would be nice for your guests to listen to as they can finally relax at the reception.

Candles everywhere
There’s nothing more romantic than a dim room lit only by the glow of hundreds of candles. And luckily, candles are inexpensive.

Bring your own music
Hiring a dj can be fun, but totally not necessary. Why not spend some time creating your own playlist with both fun, danceable songs and romantic slow songs too? This way you can literally just set it and forget it and just enjoy the night (or day) away.

This is your wedding, not your whole life. So don’t take on more stress than needed!
Ontario bakery wants the best for your celebration. We hope you have enjoyed these suggestions and that you'll come to us first  for your custom wedding cake needs!

Feeling Romantically Stumped? Here Are Freshly Baked Date Ideas Just For You!

Feeling Romantically Stumped? Here Are Freshly Baked Date Ideas Just For You!You love going out with your special someone, but what happens when going out just doesn’t feel so special anymore? The truth is, as anyone will tell you, that as you travel on the road of love, it takes effort to keep the spark and magic alive. There are many reasons for this, some of them being getting older and changing, the stress and busyness of everyday life and just generally getting used to each other.
So the key is to connect and shake things up. You need a chance to look into each other’s eyes as if for the first time and do things from that similar fresh perspective. That’s what this post is all about; helping you see each other again in a fun and connected way!
Foot Talks
Bare with me on this, but it’s so good. Set some time aside for foot rubs and conversation. If you can do this during a hotel overnight, even better! But take some time, set a timer and have one partner rub the other partner’s feet for 5 minutes; 2.5 minutes on each foot. The one getting massaged gets to talk about their feelings, their dreams, what they’ve been going through or what they’re learning. The partner rubbing gets to reflect back what they’ve heard, and share their encouragement. (not solutions!) Then the partners switch!

Mini Trip
It’s not easy to go on vacation all the time, so how about a long weekend? If you’re the outdoor type, go camping. If you’re a luxury type, find a beautiful hotel and order room service. Maybe you’d like to meet somewhere in the middle. You could go somewhere 2 hours away, stay at a bed and breakfast or a wellness resort and spend some time without media and more talking and laughing.

Go Back
Regardless of whether it’s there or not, revisit the place where you first met. Walk down the street. Go inside. Sit outside and look. Imagine what would have happened if you hadn’t crossed paths and look at all the good that’s happened because you did. Eat the same food. Listen to the same song. Maybe wear the same clothes? Make it fun.

Sweet List
Feeling Romantically Stumped? Here Are Freshly Baked Date Ideas Just For You!Plan a night to bake together. Choose a cake or a pie that you both love and take the time to get all the right ingredients and time you need to bake. Then do the baking! Put on your favorite music and agree to not talk about anything stressful or heavy. This is sweet time! Then while the sweet is baking, use that time to share what you love about the other person. Tell them where you’ve seen them be sweet in the last few days/weeks and appreciate them. Take turns doing this and see where it takes you. But don’t forget about that cake in the oven!

Cake and Wine
Who does that? You do. You can enjoy and indulge in a rich red velvet cake and a bottle of red wine. Why not? Enjoy it in front of a fire or at the beach at sunset. Just allow your senses to overcome you and get lost in the moment. Share a kiss and let it take you away.

No matter what you decide to do, the key is to spend some time together remembering your years together and looking forward to the years you have left.

Ontario Bakery is in love with love. That’s why we are so many people’s first call for wedding, valentine’s, engagement and anniversary cakes custom made for each couple. Call us today and reserve yours!
